The Association of Hungarian Folk Artists (NESZ) is a non-governmental organization established in 1982. The fundamental aims of the Association have been the support of the values of Hungarian folk crafts, the bringing together of people interested in the folk arts, and the creation of new regional associations and organizations. The task of the Association is professional advocacy, continuous contact with member associations and art houses, co-ordination of their activity, and the ensuring of a mutual exchange of information.
From the very beginning the Association of Hungarian Folk Artists has organized and conducted events, exhibitions, fairs, professional applications, training, camps, and conferences.
The Association includes 56 Folk Associations, Craft Workshops, and Art Houses from all over Hungary and across the border with a membership of more than 5 000 persons.
Since 1987 the annual highlight event of the Association is the Festival of Folk Arts in Buda Castle. This is the largest national celebration of artisans and traditional arts and crafts.
