About the event

In honor of NYC Climate Week, Accord Treble Choir presents Urgent Earth: A Musical Ceremony of Mourning and Rebirth. Composed by Hungarian House Composer in Residence Stefania de Kenessey with poetry by Annie Finch, Urgent Earth is an a cappella eco-cantata about the climate crisis. A prologue inspired by Wiccan rituals is followed by musically diverse movements titled “Oil Spill,” “Butterfly Lullaby,” “Mother God,” and “Extinction Litany.” This timely offering will be paired with a variety of Hungarian choral works that celebrate the beauty of nature, love, and music.

About the Choir:

Accord Treble Choir is a nine-voice a cappella chamber choir based in New York City. Accord was founded in 2009 by Akiko Fuchisawa and Liz Geisewite with the intention of building a musical ensemble based on cooperation, caring, and a shared love for unaccompanied (a cappella) choral music written specifically for treble voices.
