The Art of Than Mór

A prominent figure of Hungarian Romantic painting, he was born in Óbecse/Bečej in the Southern Hungary Region at the time (Délvidék/Vajdaság/Vojvodina). As a young man, he participated in the 1848/49 War of Independence: his battle depictions are famous. He trained throughout Europe, and upon returning home, he received significant commissions: together with Károly Lotz, he decorated the Vigadó in Pest, the National Museum, the Opera and the Eastern Railway Station. In addition to his historical compositions, he painted magnificent allegorical works, altarpieces and numerous portraits and genre paintings.

A magyar romantikus festészet kiemelkedő alakja a Délvidéken született. Ifjúként részt vett az 1848/49-es szabadságharcban: híresek a csataábrázolásai. Európa-szerte képezte magát, majd hazatérve jelentős megbízásokhoz jutott: Lotz Károllyal együtt dekorálták a pesti Vigadót, a Nemzeti Múzeumot, az Operát és a Keleti Pályaudvart. Történeti kompozíciói mellett nagyszerű allegorikus műveket, oltárképeket és számos portrét és zsánerképet festett.

Susan Papp Korhecz, painting restoration

dr. Korhecz Papp Zsuzsanna, festő-restaurátor művész (1971)

dr. Korhecz Papp Zsuzsanna graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in Budapest, Department of Restoration, and then got a job at the Subotica City Museum. She received a doctorate in Baroque painting techniques from her alma mater. Since graduating, she has been researching the 18th-19th century painting heritage of the Southern Hungarian Region. She has organized a series of international exhibitions about forgotten Hungarian artists, for which she has written multilingual, richly illustrated monographs.

dr. Korhecz Papp Zsuzsanna a budapesti Magyar Képzőművészeti Egyetem Restaurátor Szakon diplomázott, majd a Szabadkai Városi Múzeumban kapott állást. Alma Materében doktorált barokk festészettechnika témában. Diplomázása óta kutatja a Délvidék 18-19. századi festészeti örökségét. Elfeledett magyarországi művészekről rendezett nemzetközi kiállítássorozatokat, melyekhez többnyelvű, gazdagon illusztrált monográfiákat írt.
