A Rendezvényről

Description

A full experiential immersion into the globally renowned and highly regarded play The Tragedy of Man, for those of all levels of interest on the subject and the masterwork.  Become familiar with this literature or give yourself time and creative space to increase your expertise and appreciation of it – you choose your own path; we will offer the resources to make it an unforgettable and rewarding experience.

Expectations and Goals

While we read this play at leisure over the course of 6 months, we will engage with numerous interpretations and renditions of film, theater, and music that were inspired by Imre Madách’s The Tragedy of Man. There will be monthly in-person and virtual workshops, film screenings, book talks, and guest speakers discussing topics related to the play and its esteemed writer.

Learn of the significance it played in the lives of “The Martians”, the group of scientists on the Manhattan Project who were of Hungarian origin. We will delve into related concepts explored in modern films such as Oppenheimer, as well as Jankovics Marcell’s animated movie which took over 20 years to complete.

There will be book talks held for every 3 chapters, beginning in Fall 2024.  Upon completing the reading, a 6-week writers’ workshop will be available to create your own additional scene for the play, in the era, civilization, realm, or geography of your choice – OR – if bilingual, you can make a comparative study of the English and Hungarian versions or take on the challenge of creating a new translation of the play with our sponsorship.

Workshop #2

April 19, 2024

The Martians of The Manhattan Project

During this workshop, we will learn about the team called “The Martians” on the Manhattan Project and explore events that molded the minds and thoughts of these highly esteemed scientific figures. While closing offices used during the Manhattan Project, only one item couldn’t be categorized in the inventory of items found in the space utilized by the “Martian” team, and that was a worn and torn Hungarian copy of Imre Madách’s The Tragedy of Man.   Together, we will examine the reasons why this masterwork found its way into their essential reference library.
